Stuff I Like Saturdays: Father's Day Edition

Welcome to week 2 of Stuff I Like Saturdays. Since tomorrow is Father's Day, I think it would only be appropriate for today's post to be Stuff I Like Saturday: Father's Day Edition. (Click here to read the first Stuff I Like Saturday: Welcome Summer Edition).

I am not sure what in my life has helped grow me and sanctify me more than being a dad. If you don't know this about me, I have four boys, aged 11, 11 (twins), 8, and 6. Marriage has grown me up a whole lot, but nothing like being a dad and having the responsibility of raising four boys who I hope and pray will become godly men someday down the road.

I remember hearing friends who were a few years further along than me how quickly the time goes with your kids. In the diaper/sleepless nights years, it seemed like time was crawling by. Now... I just want time to stop. I don't want to see them grow up and get bigger. I love being a dad. To all you dads out there, Happy Father's Day.

1. What He Must Be if He Wants to Marry my Daughter, by Voddie Baucham, Jr (book): Our senior pastor, Todd Wagner, is taking a group of about 20-25 guys through this book right now. I have really enjoyed reading through this. Even though I don't have daughters, Voddie provides a great picture of the characteristics I hope to see in my sons when/if they marry in the future.

2. Father-in-Law: One of my all time favorite posts from Gary Thomas, on looking at God through the lens of Father-In-Law. He talks more about this in his book A Lifelong Love. I wrote a post about this a few months ago called Our Father (In Law) Who Are in Heaven.

3. Daaaad! (video): I don't even have any daughters, but guaranteed to make me tear-up every time I watch this... From my friends at Igniter Media. I hope my kids can also say, "No matter the moment, you were always there for me."

4. Five Life Lessons Learned from my Step-Dad: One of my most popular posts ever written. I grew up in a blended family, and in this post I share several lessons learned from my Step-Father.
