What would it take for you to be faithful in one way today?
I’ve written about this before, so I’ll keep it short and sweet today.
I hate that three digit number that shows up on my scale.
Yesterday I ate some veggies and a hard-boiled egg for breakfast, had some taco meat and veggies for lunch, and a salad with balsamic vinaigrette for dinner. I had a few snacks along the way—some almonds, beef jerky, and a few more almonds at night. I drank a gallon of water, went for a walk in the morning and did some yoga in the late afternoon. And yes, the visual you have of me doing yoga is just as bad, if not worse, than what it actually looks like.
I should also add that I’ve been following a similar routine for several months now.
Eating healthy/low carb? Check.
Workouts? Check?
Water? Check.
Surely that wretched scale will reward me with some good news this morning, right? Something to show me objectively that it’s been worth the effort and sacrifice?
But alas… new day, same number.
Why do I even try?
I’m preaching to myself today as a reminder to stay faithful and trust the Lord.
The Lord and I have had a few good talks recently. I run my mouth, complaining, arguing with Him, explaining to Him how a scale should operate, just to make sure He knows we’re looking for a lower number. I make sure He knows it’s kind of like golf, where, for me, a lower number on the scale is better. It’s not like basketball, baseball, football, or soccer.
Thankfully He’s patient with me. He reminds me He loves me and that He knows and He sees, and that He’s even sovereign over the number on the scale. That my value and worth do not come from the number on the scale. I argue back that He doesn’t want me to lose weight or get healthy and that if He cared for me that the number would be better. He reminds me that I can be prideful and that He still loves me.
Our conversation ends with me praising Him for His patience and kindness towards me, and with a reminder to just stay faithful.
2 Timothy 2:13 says, “If we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself.”
I remind myself faithfulness is listed among the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23. I remember God is faithful in the midst of my temptations (1 Corinthians 10:13). And I remember God desires for us to be found faithful at the end of our days (Matthew 25:21).
What is it for you? Where do you need the reminder of God’s love for you and the encouragement to remain faithful?
