Stuff I Like Saturdays: November 5, 2016 Edition
Happy fall Saturday to you! The weather in Dallas is fantastic and we're finally enjoying my favorite season of the year.
Originally I intended Stuff I Like Saturdays (SILS) to be a weekly collection of great stuff from the web. It's been a while since I've posted, aka a few months. So much for the weekly collection. The good news is that today I share some great stuff about marriage, parenting, and work.
Here's some Stuff I Like:
What does "guard your heart" really mean in dating? We often use the phrase "Guard Your Heart," but do we know what it really means? In this great post on ERLC, Phillip Bethancourt shares what the Bible means when it says to 'guard your heart.'
I Believe In Us, Church, by Jennie Allen - Jennie handles this difficult conversation about same-sex marriage with both truth and sensitivity. She exemplifies grace and truth in her writing.
Infidelity Doesn't Just Happen: It Starts With These Subtle Warnings - Really good post from Relevant Magazine. If you're married, this should humble and sober you. Let's war against these early warning signs and fight for our marriages.
The 3 Components of Job Satisfaction, by Michael Hyatt - I really like this post by Hyatt, as he talks about the intersection between three different components that typically lead to job satisfaction: Passion, Proficiency, and Profitability.
What a Stanford Dean Says Parents are Doing That's Ruining Their Kids - Great parenting article that really challenged me to think through the ways that Kristen and I often seek to protect and rescue our kids.
If you haven't seen it before, you'll definitely want to check out my Date Night Guide - 124 Killer Date Night Ideas! You’ll need to subscribe to my blog to get the guide. But, I promise it’s worth it (plus you can always unsubscribe once you download the guide).
A Few Books I'm Currently Reading:
Thanks for the Feedback: The Science and Art of Receiving Feedback Well, By Douglas Stone and Sheila Heen - I'm so glad I'm reading this one. I want and need to do a better job of not being defensive and receiving feedback well.
Living in the Light of Money, Sex, & Power, by John Piper - I am reading this with a discipleship group I am co-leading. Money, sex, and power - three things God created that are intended to be more than a temptation in our lives.
Recovering Redemption, by Matt Chandler and Michael Snetzer - This book provides a gospel-saturated perspective on how to change.
